Permavent is a UK-based roofing product manufacturer. They make products ranging from breather membranes to easy roof systems.

All the products which Permavent manufacture are made in Britain, using the latest technologies and designs, and are fully tested by BRE (Building Research Establishment).

What are breather membranes?

Breather membranes, such as the ones that we sell, are installed to the outer side of the insulation. You can install a breather membrane over or under counter-battens for pitched roofs.

Breather membranes allow water vapour to exit from the interior of a building without the need for ventilation. Additionally, breather membranes also excel at repelling any water and preventing rainwater ingress.

Without a breather membrane, there would be numerous structural issues caused by rain and condensation, including:

• Rotten timber frames, joists, or rafters, leading to structural damage.
• The insulation of the property being less effective because it’s absorbed moisture.
• Mould forming where condensation has built up, which not only looks unsightly, but can be hazardous if it’s black mould.

When you install a breather membrane into your home, it’s good practice to seal the joints with tape. Sealing the joints with tape will prevent any air leakage and ensure maximum performance.
